V neděli si Olomouc připomínala osvobození
Položením věnců k památníkům a celodenním programem na Horním náměstí vyvrcholily v neděli 8. května oslavy osvobození v Olomouci. Váleční hrdinové také převzali pamětní medaile udělené ruským prezidentem.
Program připravený pro veřejnost začal v neděli 8. května na Horním náměstí v Olomouci i přes nepřízeň počasí už dopoledne. Připravena byla velkoplošná projekce dobových filmů a fotografií, vyhrávala posádková hudba, pochodovaly mažoretky před vchodem do radnice probíhaly ukázky bojového umění, ovšem největší pozornost budil nejmodernější tank české armády T-72 a obrněné vozidlo.
Slavnostní program však začal dopoledne nejprve uctěním památky padlých u památníků a pomníků v Řepčíně, na Ústředním hřbitově, v Čechových sadech a na třídě 17. listopadu. Ruský generální konzul Viktor Sibilev spolu s primátorem města Martinem Tesaříkem pak na Horním náměstí předali pamětní udělené ruským prezidentem Vladimírem Putinem přímým účastníkům medaile 2. světové války. Z třiatřiceti vyznamenaných mužů a žen se jich však slavnostního aktu mohla osobně zúčastnit jen necelá desítka.
Vzpomínkové akce na osvobození od fašismu a k 60. výročí ukončení 2. světové války pak vyvrcholily večerním slavnostním koncertem s Chrámu svatého Mořice.
